School Days ~a journey ~II

One of my friends asked me, why only on teachers. Why not on friends? My first few posts are on teachers cos they are the ones who were a big influence in our schooling days. In whatever ways, they have touched us.They advised, scolded, fought, screamed, ,yelled, nurtured us, inspired us, whacked us for being naughty, decked our dreams 😛 , nightmares ..And secondly, because, when u talk about school, they always come first to mind..atleast to me. In a way, this is a tribute to them.

Continuing with the previous post, My Maths teacher in 12th did not impress a great deal on me. She too had a rude nickname. She seemed harried and flustered most of the time.  I, being not a fan of Maths, took the opportunities to stay away from Maths as far as possible. I did not like  submitting homework and holiday assignments in Maths. And I relished the opportunity to remain a back bencher. The only thing was I enjoyed calculus.Sigh. I am not sure if there would have been a significant difference had the personality of the teacher been different.

Games Teacher (nothing personal) remained a fright through all the years.Fierce and ghastly punishments.  She was, hell, aggressive about sports. respect for the passion of sports but Maybe, be her approach to wards girls could have been better. With guys and the sporty girls, there was not much issues. But with rest of us, who were shy, hesitant and suffered from insecurities, we had a hard time.We refused to go and run in the school ground in shorts, by the time we reached 10-12th class. Fortunately, we had a basement gym so we submitted to do our games there.

Those were the major teachers of the 11th-12th period. I still recall our library teacher. She was awesome and I loved the library period. Thanks to our English teacher, we earned an extra privilege of two library periods in a week as she was concerned that obsession with science/maths/engineering and medical would affect the english language.

Those who had not opted for biology, and chose engineering drawing as a subject had a different teacher for that purpose. He wa s quite inconspicuous. I still recall him. But he was rather, jokingly, called Sexy S——-. And computer science students had a dedicated teacher for that. Later, though, I heard that there were issues between him and my friends. I don’t recollect though much.Again, cause I was a biology student, cannot describe them much.

And by penning these words down, I immortalize them. Next on, moving to secondary school teachers, Those fun-filled 9ths and 10ths.

An unforgettable teacher, in class 9, my class teacher Ms.K, was adorably beautiful but there was a  tragedy and she was widowed soon after her marriage. She, who used to make our class beautiful and warm with her glow,   never smiled after that. Our hearts broke watching her every day in class. She had become like a marble statue, ghost like. Nobody should be widowed in their honeymoon. Then after two years, her life changed, she got married again and we were all sooooo happy for her….and she left India.I still remember her face, and the emotional turmoil she went through. I hope she is happy wherever she is now :|.

School Memories ~a winding tale I

One of twitter’s recent hashtags, unplugged a tap in my mind, from which emanated a whole lot of long forgotten memories. This story is a winding road down those wonderful school days. Sip it, enjoy it.

Yeah..it all started when some wise crack in twitter-world created this hashtag called school memories or class 12 or some such thing. So some of my old tweets, which I have storified, I have  used to recreate a more cohesive note from that.

School time memories are so precious. Each and every moment was precious including the unpleasant.  And the bonds last till today. I had a rather broken up school history. With my first few years in Kerala, followed by Kuwait and then in Delhi. This post is on those cherished days in Delhi, where I developed as I know myself today. While there is a lot to write, for now this is more about class XI and class XII which were the best of the best.

We had an outspoken, vibrant class, a mix of all kinds. Our teachers were a mix of the best and the not so great. But they made the drama that is school life, come alive.
Recollecting the main characters, I think of  My english teacher Ms.G.  was awesome, impeccable and classy. I loved english classes, listening to her crystal clear voice, with impeccable pronunciation, reading out various passages. She was well dressed and never shouted at us. This was my favorite class, besides Biology. English took me to a different plane. I guess, i always have been in love with english, though I have never realised till recently.I will blog on my love for english another time.
My Biology teacher, Ms B. was short , spunky and a dynamite. But she was cool. And it was really funny to see her battling with the naughty giants in my class. She was our form teacher also. Strict but warm and friendly. Adored her.
Our chemistry teacher was even colder than ice. When he entered our classroom, the  temperature would drop to subzero levels. It is strange how much a teacher’s personality can influence your love for the subject.  His slaps, on non submission of homework, felt even worse than the chill experienced after a glacier fall. And I am not sure slaps were the best way of  motivating students. Rather, instilling fear of authority?
My Physics teacher, Mr.S.  was the coolest one. (It kind of reminds me of that old Kelvinator ad. I am the coolest one). He was jovial, funny and warm with al students. You could see the rapport between him and students. Though I am not great at Physics, I used to enjoy the classes.
Maths Teacher on the other hand, garnered the dislike of quite a few students. Somehow, felt that she tried too much and was not very effective for me. There was a name for her which I discovered later was actually a rude name.
Our batch was quite lucky cause we had a strict and effective Principal. She guided , admonished, and took care of us all through our school years. I still love her and remember her. And you know she is on Facebook interacting with her students and even after retirement, all the students love her. That is awesomeness. It is a different matter that we would get into plenty of trouble for doing all sort of naughty things and for making fabulous noise.
